Among the most popular and pleasant destinations in Nepal, Kalinchowk offers adventurous sports, historical buildings, spectacular scenery, traditional places, andfood to die for. This place has views of the snowy valley during the winter season.
As a mountain lover, I always yearned to see Kalinchowk’s picturesque mountains and wintery snow. My luck favored me. My parents decided to take me there so I took a few days off school. Since I was born in Kathmandu, we barely experienced snowfall during the winter. My first visit to Kalinchowk made a lasting impression on me.
Kalinchowk was a winter destination for us. I was captivated by the landscape of mountains, snow, log houses, and lovely people there. It still flashes through my memory.
We took a jeep to Kalinchowk. My uncles and aunts also joined us on this trip. I woke upearly in the morning that day and got ready to leave. My parents were ready as well. The jeep came to pick us up and we got in. My uncles and aunts were already there. I had many ups and downs while traveling to Kalinchowk. I felt sick most of the time. I remember the road being awful. We soon reached Charikot which is approximately 150km. The drive from Kathmandu to Charikot is a very pleasant 4 hours drive passing through rivers, streams, hills, mountains, etc. We reached Dolakha soon.
After a while,we went to a restaurant called “Thori” where we ate Bhat, Dal, and Tarkari. The view from the restaurant was incredible.“Are you excited to reach Kalinchowk?” my mom asked me. I looked at her and said,“Yes, I always wanted to go there”.”The food here is awesome too,” I added again as I looked at the plate.
We soon reached Kalinchowk. It took us about 6-7 hours to reach there. Winter was in full swing, so the place was covered in snow. The road was slippery. To avoid any accidents, we tied chains around the jeep’s tires which took a while. When we got out of the jeep, I touched snow for the first time. It was quite an experience. It was cold and soft just like I had imagined. My sister and I played with the snow for a while which made our hands frigid. I felt cold. Everyone was craving tea. So, we went to a small restaurant and drank black tea with ginger and lemon on it. The tea was flavorsome. It had a distinct flavor. I felt warm.
We then checked into a hotel called “Hotel Fireside” where we booked three rooms. Despite the small size, the rooms were clean and well-kept. We were welcomed and treated properly by the staff. They were very friendly. We then went out to take some photos, played with the snow, and came back. I also made a snowman which looked unusual. Everyone was hungry so we decided to sit around the fire and eat dinner at the hotel. While we were eating, a kind lady came to us and offered us caramelized peanuts which were coated with a delightfully crunchy sugar coating. My aunt said thank you to the lady.
The place was really cold yet peaceful. The next day, we all headed to KalinchokBhagwati Temple using a cable car. I was joyful. We had to climb a lot of stairs but it was all worth it in the end. The scenery from the temple was magnificent and the temple was amazing as well. There was a long line for the temple. We were put on a tika by a pujari and we were offered coconut as prasad. After taking some photos and enjoying the view, we soon returned to our hotel. We slept for the night and decided to go back home the next day.
It was a fun experience to travel to Kalinchowk, see the picturesque scenery, eat delicious food, socialize with other people, and just have fun. The snow, the mountains, the hotels, and the kind people of Kalinchowk were all worth it.
